Booth Hall Orthodontists Sitting Pretty!

Support Stool are pleased to announce that the Orthodontic Department at Booth Hall Children’s Hospital, part of the Central Manchester and Manchester Children’s University Hospital NHS Trust, have recently re-equipped their entire department with Support Stools.

Whilst their old stools were due for replacement, the main driving force was the lower back ache suffered by David Bearn, Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Orthodontics for Booth Hall. David was suffering more and more lower back pain to the extent that by about 11am in the morning he was becoming, in his own words, “very irritable and grumpy”.

Fortunately, David had an opportunity to sit on a Support Stool at an Exhibition. He was so impressed by its comfort, functionality and aesthetics that he arranged to have one delivered to the Clinic for evaluation by other members of his staff. Everyone was so impressed that the Trust decided to order 10 to replace their existing stools. Not least amongst their considerations were the significant Health and Safety issues associated with inappropriate seating. This can lead to a wide range of potential problems including a myriad of spinal, elbow, eye, upper arm, shoulder, foot, forearm and neck problems. It can also result in mental health and stamina problems.

Since moving to Support Stools everyone in the Department is happy. David no longer experiences lower back pain and can work happily for a full day’s clinic without becoming whingy and grumpy. Now he feels sorry for the staff on the other clinics he works in. They don’t have Support stools yet and he notices the difference almost straight away. David hopes they will get some soon too. As he says “they’re fantastic”.

Some of the other Hospitals and Clinics now using Support Stools include the Orthodontic Dept at York District Hospital, Hammersmith & Fulham PCT, Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Trust, Stevenage Community Dental Service, Colchester General Hospital NHS Trust  and many more.
